Erectile Dysfunction Age – A Leading Cause

As we age, our bodies begin to show signs of the aging process in many different ways. As men and women are different, the way their body’s age will vary as well. External aging signs may be gray hairs and wrinkling skin. Internal aging signs will be less obvious to the outside world but can be more telling. When men age, they may begin to see their sexual abilities change. Erectile dysfunction is a condition that many men deal with and when it comes to erectile dysfunction age is one of the leading causes for any sexual decline.

Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to attain or maintain an erection that is adequate for sexual activity. There are varying degrees of erectile dysfunction from the occasional occurrence to rarely being able to achieve an erection. For men dealing with erectile dysfunction age is the number one reason that is given as a cause. Men over 50 are the most at risk for this condition. About 90% of the reported cases of ED occur in men over 50 years of age. Younger men can find themselves having sexual issues but the majority of men who have issues will be in the 50 and older category.
There are other causes for erectile dysfunction age being the primary factor. Physical activity, or lack thereof, can lead to erection issues. Men who do not exercise regularly, who are obese and who are sedentary have a 30% higher risk of not being able to perform sexually. Studies show that men who start exercising regularly, three hours per week is recommended, will see improvements in their sex life over time. Alcohol intake and smoking also are factors when it comes to erectile dysfunction. The healthier a man is, the better off he will be.

Erectile dysfunction is a condition that many men will suffer from in their lives. For those suffering from erectile dysfunction age does play a huge factor. As we grow older, our bodies do not work as they once did. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle and staying in the best shape possible, a man will be doing everything he can to ward off the effects of erectile dysfunction. ED can be hard on a relationship and the lifestyle a man is leading. Even though age is a common factor, just because a man grows old, that does not mean his quality of life has to suffer.
